Downtown Improvements (North Half)

The Village of Bensenville is about to undertake a very significant roadway reconstruction/streetscape project in your area. Please see the location map below for the project limits. Addison St/Center St from Main St to Roosevelt Rd will be reconstructed with a new Hot-Mix Asphalt pavement, stamped sidewalk, C&G, driveway aprons, on-street parallel parking, watermain replacement on Addison St along with new services, 30-inch storm sewer as identified in the master plan along Center St, striping and landscape restoration. Main St and York Rd will receive aesthetic upgrades including but not limited to stamped sidewalk, benches, planter boxes, and stamped cross walks.

Update- 10/06/2017

Weather permitting, week of 10-9-17, the general contractor is scheduled to continue pavement excavation and aggregate placement on Center St. They are also scheduled to begin planter box installation on south side of Main St and C&G installation on Center St. Center St will be closed to all traffic including the intersection at Roosevelt Ave. Traffic is planned to be detoured to Addison St. Delays should be expected for motoring traffic. It is best to avoid the construction zone. 

Update- 10/02/2017

During week of 10-2-17, Weather permitting, the general contractor is scheduled to continue working on Pavement removal on Center St next week. The underground contractor will finish transferring sanitary services on Roosevelt Ave and storm sewer laterals on Center St next week. During Pavement removal work on Center St the street will be closed to all traffic including the intersection at Roosevelt Ave. Traffic is planned to be detoured to Addison St. Delays should be expected for motoring traffic. It is best to avoid the construction zone. 

Update- 09/22/2017

During the week of 9-25-17, weather permitting, the general contractor is tentatively scheduled finish remaining stamped sidewalk installation on Addison St. The HMA binder paving on Addison St has been tentatively scheduled towards the mid to end of next week. Pavement removal on Center St is also tentatively scheduled to begin next week. The underground contractor will finish storm sewers on Center St next week prior to moving onto Roosevelt Ave to transfer some water and sanitary services. A water shutdown is expected to take place during the week and impacted residents will be notified via notice.

Due to multiple ongoing construction activities, Addison St will have minimal passage room during construction hours. Center St is also expected to be congested due to ongoing construction activities. The intersection at Center/Roosevelt is expected to remain closed over the weekend and during the week. The motorists are advised to expect delays and/or seek alternate routes.

Update- 09/14/2017

During the week of 9-18-17, weather permitting, the general contractor is tentatively scheduled to begin excavation and installation for planter boxes on Addison St. The remaining stamped sidewalk installation will follow the planter boxes. The HMA binder paving on Addison St has been postponed until all the sidewalk is completed. At this time the paving is tentatively scheduled towards the end of next week. The underground contractor will continue to work on storm sewers on Center St next week prior to moving onto Roosevelt Ave to transfer some water and sanitary services. 

Due to multiple ongoing construction activities, Addison St will have minimal passage room during construction hours. Center St is also expected to be congested due to ongoing construction activities. The motorists are advised to expect delays and/or seek alternate routes.

Update- 09/08/2017

During the week of 9-11-17, weather permitting, the general contractor is tentatively scheduled to begin excavation for planter boxes on Addison St. The HMA binder placement on Addison St is tentatively scheduled for mid to late week. The underground contractor is scheduled to install watermain on Center/Roosevelt intersection on 9-12-17. This operation will require a water shutdown. The impacted residents will be notified on 9-11-17 via notice. The underground contractor will work on storm sewer installation the remainder of the week. 

The intersection at Center/Roosevelt will be closed next week due to scheduled work. Addison St will be made passable to southbound traffic after the completion of work each day. During paving day, traffic on Addison St will not be able to pass by. The motorists are advised to expect delays and/or seek alternate routes. See attached maps: Roosevelt Addison Work Zone

Update- 08/30/2017

The week of Aug 28, the general contractor worked on earth excavation along Addison St. They also worked on sidewalk, pavement and curb removal. By the end of the week, the contractor expects to form and pour curb and gutter on Addison St. The underground contractor is working on lowering water services on Center St as well as sanitary manhole installation at the intersection of Roosevelt/Center. 

Weather permitting, the underground contractor will continue to work on watermain and storm installation on Center St. At this time we are anticipating water shutdown on Center St next week. The impacted residents will be notified 24-hrs in advance. The general contractor will finish the curb and gutter work next week and is scheduled to place hot-mix asphalt binder course on Addison St. 

The intersections of Addison/Roosevelt and Center/Roosevelt will be closed while the contractor is working at those intersection. Update- 08/18/2017


The week of Aug 14, the general contractor worked on brick removals along south side of Main St as well as pour stamped concrete sidewalk along north side of Main St. They also pressure washed and sealed the stamped sidewalk. The underground contractor worked on installing sanitary manholes at the intersection of Roosevelt and Addison St. They also begin storm sewer installation at the same intersection. 

Weather permitting, the underground contractor will continue to work on storm sewer installation at Addison/Roosevelt intersection early next week followed by some watermain work. At this time we are anticipating water shutdown on Addison St next week. The impacted residents will be notified 24-hrs in advance. If all goes well, the underground contractor will move to Center/Roosevelt intersection by mid-week. After the completion of underground work at Addison/Roosevelt, the general contractor will begin earth excavation on east side of Addison St. They will also continue to work on removals on the south side of Main St. 

The intersections of Addison/Roosevelt and Center/Roosevelt will be closed while the contractor is working at those intersection. All efforts will be made to keep one of the two intersections passable at all times; however, it is best to avoid the construction zone and seek alternate routes. Update- 08/11/2017


The general contractor spent the week cleaning up some of the site and pavement removal at Addison/Roosevelt intersection. The underground contractor begin excavating for the sanitary manhole replacement work at the Addison/Roosevelt intersection. Metra crews are finishing up platform replacement on the south side of the tracks while their sub is working on stamping and coloring the platform on north side. 

Weather permitting, the general contractor is scheduled to perform stamped concrete installation along Main St and brick removals on the south side of Main St next week while the underground contractor will continue with the sanitary and storm improvements at the intersection of Addison/Roosevelt intersection. AT&T has finished relocating its conduit to allow for Nicor to come back and finish their work. Nicor has finished some of its remaining work this week and the retirement of the existing main will be done in the next week or two.  Roosevelt Addison Work Zone

Update- 08/03/2017


During week of July 31, the general contractor installed planter boxes and stamped concrete sidewalk on the north side of Main St. The underground contractor finished the water service transfers as well as connection to the new watermain at Main St and Roosevelt Ave.  

Weather permitting, week of August 7,  the general contractor is scheduled to perform removals on the south side of Main St while the underground contractor will begin the sanitary and storm improvements at the intersection of Addison/Roosevelt intersection. The intersection will be closed during work hours while this work is being performed. See attached map. 

Nicor’s contractor NPL worked on installation of the new main this week but ran into conflicts with AT&T fiber optic. This fiber optic needs to be relocated which will delay finishing Nicor’s work by 2-3 weeks. They will be offsite until AT&T has relocated the fiber so Nicor can come back and abandon the old main. AT&T is scheduled to perform its work the week of Aug 7, 2017.

Update- 07/21/2017


The contractor worked on forming up and pouring the planter boxes along Main St. The contractor also worked on removing the sidewalk and placing aggregate base course. The sub-contractor worked on pressure testing and chlorinating watermain on Addison St. Weather permitting, contractor plans to continue to work on Main St with planter box forming and pouring as well as stamped sidewalk installation. The underground contractor will likely work on water service installation pending chlorination results. The underground contractor is also schedule to install sanitary manholes at the intersection of Roosevelt/Center St by mid week.

Nicor’s contractor NPL begin to perform preliminary digging for relocation of gas main at Center St/Roosevelt intersection. Weather permitting, they will continue the relocation work next week. Gas pipe line is to be installed 8-10 feet deep while the sanitary manholes are approximate 15-feet deep. With NPL and underground contractor both working in the same intersection, this intersection will have to be closed to all traffic. Nicor work is anticipated to take 3-4 weeks to complete. Addison St will be cleaned up to allow for two-way traffic. See attached map depicting the work zone area. During work hours, accommodations will made for local residents.

Update- 06/30/2017


The contractor continued to work on brick pavement, sidewalk and driveway removals on the north side of Main St this week. Tree removal also took place this week. There will be no work on July 3 and 4 on this project. This project is not impacted by the State budget so contractor will resume working on July 5. Weather permitting, contractor plans to continue to work on removal as well as raised planter boxes next week.

Update- 06/16/2017


The contractor begin working on the brick, sidewalk and driveway removals along York Rd during the week of June 12, 2017. Driveway aprons were poured towards the end of the week. Next week, the contractor will focus on stamped sidewalk installation along York Rd as well as removals on Main St. The public information meeting was held on June 13, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm. 

Update- 06/12/2017
The contractor will begin with brick, sidewalk and driveway removals along York Rd between Roosevelt Ave and Main St. Weather permitting, the proposed sidewalk and driveways will be installed towards the end of this week.

UPDATE 05/31/2017
An open house format public meeting will be held at the Village Hall, 12 S Center St (Second Floor) on June 13, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM to discuss the construction stage of the project. Interested parties are welcome and encouraged to attend.
