IL-83 Shared Use Path Project (Foster Ave to Bryn Mawr Ave)

This project consists of installation a concrete shared use path along the east side of IL-83 between Foster Ave and Bryn Mawr Ave along with a small section of the path to be located along south side of Foster Ave between IL-83 and Marshall Rd. The project also consists of extending a box culvert under IL-83 as well as installation of curb and gutter along IL-83 within project limits, driveway removal and replacement, re-locating existing drainage ditches, drainage improvements, landscaping and other miscellaneous items necessary to complete the project. The construction is anticipated to begin July 2020 and will last until December 2020. The utility relocation work may commence earlier than July 2020. This project is partially funded through the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality funds. The project appeared on the IDOT letting on April 24, 2020 and was awarded to Alliance Contractors on May 26, 2020.

Update 09/17/2020

During the week of Sep 14, 2020, the contractor continued with concrete curb and gutter and the PCC bike path along Rt 83. They also continued with rip rap at the ends of the culverts throughout the project as well as topsoil installation and ditch grading. Weather permitting, during the week of September 21, the contractor will continue to work on ditch grading, topsoil installation, installing HMA on street returns and driveway aprons. 

Update 09/11/2020

During the week of Sep 8, 2020, the contractor worked on they continued with concrete curb and gutter and the PCC bike path along Rt 83. Poured the concrete retaining wall, placed the lagging behind the wall, and backfilled behind the retaining wall. They also placed rip rap at the ends of the culverts throughout the project. Weather permitting, during the week of September 14, the contractor will await Comcast relocation along Foster Ave before finishing up the gaps in the bike path. Comcast also needs to adjust manholes along IL-83 to finish the gaps in the path.

Update 09/03/2020

During the week of Aug 31, 2020, the contractor worked on storm sewers, h-piles installation at the box culvert, forming and pouring the wing walls at the box culvert, shoulder removal, path installation as well as C&G installation along IL-83.  Weather permitting, during the week of September 8, the contractor will strip the forms on the wing walls, back fill behind the wall, install legging, continue with shoulder removal, ditch grading as well as C&G and path installation.  

Update 08/28/2020

During the week of Aug 24, 2020 the contractor worked on box culvert deck, C&G along IL-83, storm sewer installation, and median removals.  Weather permitting, during the week of August 31, the contractor will continue to work on storm sewer installation as well as C&G along IL-83. The wing walls for the box culvert are awaiting utility relocation from MCI and Comcast.

Update 08/21/2020

During the week of Aug 17, 2020, the contractor worked on box culvert floor and walls. They also poured C&G, driveways and path along Foster Ave where they can while working around the utility conflicts. The contractor also worked shoulder removal on IL-83 as well as storm sewer installation. Weather permitting, during the week of August 24, the contractor will continue to work on removals, storm sewer installation as well as finishing up the box culvert. The wing walls for the box culvert are awaiting utility relocation from MCI and Comcast.

Update 08/14/2020

During the week of Aug 3, 2020, the contractor worked on relocation of a FH relocation, C&G and driveway removals, temporary driveway installation, box culvert removal, temporary sheet piling and stages traffic control. Weather permitting, during the week of August 17, the contractor will continue to work on removals, begin storm sewer installation as well as C&G and driveway placement along Foster Ave.

Update 08/07/2020

During the week of Aug 3, 2020, the contractor worked on relocation of a FH and removal along Foster Ave. Weather permitting, during the week of August 10, the contractor will relocate another FH on Foster Ave as well as continue with removals.  

Update 07/31/2020

During the week of July 27, 2020, there wasn’t much utility relocation work. To date ComEd, MCI and AT&T have finished their respective utility relocation. Comcast is awaiting issuance of IDOT permit prior to beginning its utility relocation. Weather permitting, during the week of August 3, Comcast is anticipated to be onsite to begin utility relocation. The general contractor is tentatively scheduled to begin the demolition work along Foster Ave between IL-83 and Marshall Rd.

Update 07/16/2020

During the week of July 14, 2020, utility relocation continued by various companies. Major work and roadway closures are scheduled to begin in the next couple of weeks.

Update 07/09/2020

During the week of July 6, 2020, utility relocation is underway with various companies. A joint utility pre-con meeting was held on July 9, 2020. Major work and roadway closures are scheduled to begin shortly.

Update 06/26/2020

a virtual pre-construction meeting took place on June 23, 2020. We are anticipating utility relocation work to begin after the July 4th weekend and the contractor plans to mobilize the site week of July 6, 2020.

Update 06/23/2020

The Village of Bensenville is about to undertake a very significant shared use path project in your area. The Village will construct an off-street 10-feet wide concrete shared use path to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists along the east side of IL-83 from Foster Ave to Bryn Mawr Ave. The project will also connect the path to Marshall Rd sidewalk along the south side of Foster Ave. Other infrastructure improvements included in this project are curb and gutter installation along IL-83, significant storm sewer installation, box culvert extension under IL-83, driveway aprons, parkway restorations, , railing, pavement markings, drainage ditches and other miscellaneous items necessary to complete the project.
