Browngate Subdivision Improvements Project

PROJECT SCOPE

This Summer the Village will reconstruct residential roadways, perform drainage improvements, and replace watermain in the Browngate Subdivision.  The Village applied for and was awarded a $600,000 Community Development Block Grant from DuPage County to aide in paying for this project.  The streets included in this project are Green Valley Street (Marshall Rd to Mohawk Park), Kevyn Lane, Stoneham Street, and North Frazen Street (Mohawk Park to the north end).  The project also includes complete curb removal and replacement, complete pavement removal and replacement, driveway apron removal and replacement, drainage improvements, watermain replacement, pavement markings, and landscape restoration within the right-of-way.  The construction activities are generally broken down into three phases:

  • Utility Improvements/Repairs – Necessary repairs and additions are made to drainage structures, storm sewers, and a new watermain will be installed beneath the roadway pavement to replace the existing watermain.
  • Roadway Improvements – Removal of the existing roadway pavement, roadway base and curbs & gutters will take place.  New stone roadway base, curb and gutters, and new asphalt roadway will be constructed.  Sidewalk and driveway removal and replacement will be performed as needed to ensure drainage and ADA compliance.  This work is generally limited to one side of the street at a time to allow access to properties.
  • Restoration – The final phase includes parkway restoration, placement of the final pavement surface layer, and then final pavement markings are placed.  Prior to paving, a tack-coat of fresh oil is applied as an adhesive or bonding between the asphalt layers. Fresh oil signage will be posted in advance to remind motorist to travel slowly on the tack-coat material.

During construction, traffic will be maintained with daily lane closures and flaggers.  Only the immediate works zone area will be closed during working hours.  The project is expected to be substantially completed by Fall 2023, with final completion and landscape restoration completed by November 2023.
